For this project, we were assigned to edit a public domain book and create a cover for it. I chose to work with a balance scale on the front page because the book itself is about philosophy, and it can also represent the balance or contrast between good and evil. I chose the color red because it's the color that I immediately associated with the title, and then gave it texture to add an aged effect.
For the artwork on the inside of the book I chose to design a fly, a skull, and a sword. In the Bible, a fly is a symbol of evil, so I felt that this would be a good visual to include. Additionally, a skill is a symbol of philosophy, and the sword can represent either good or evil. I designed all three icons with an intricate design that is meant to be eye-catching and visually appealing.
