"Boards" is a project I started in 2007. It was my intention to document the issue of abandoned and vacant homes in the western section of Louisville Kentucky to hopefully bring awareness to the issue.
To date, I have photographed over 450 vacant or abandoned properties in west Louisville. I don't know how long this project will take to complete. The issue of abandoned and vacant homes is one that will probably always plague west Louisville. Unfortunately, some areas of west Louisville are very much under-served and neglected.
As one can see, many of these homes still possess the beauty they displayed when they were first built. The saying: "one man's trash is another man's treasure," is especially true here. With a little bit of elbow grease and attention, these homes could provide the needed shelter for individuals and families that are now living on the streets.
