After attending Design Indaba 2013, I found that there was a very obvious lack of actual African representation. Apart from the Design Indaba Expo, the rest of the conference lacked speakers and content that showcased the diversity of South Africa and Africa as a whole. With this in mind I set about creating a poster which showcased that this conference does take place in Africa and that Africa does in fact have a great deal to offer to the design world. With Cape Town being the design capital for 2014 I would think that Design Indaba would follow suite and place more of an emphasis on African design. My idea was to illustrate the diversity of Africa with the patchwork of fabric covering the shape of Africa. The concept of ‘insert bright idea here’ is that this is what Design Indaba does, it ignites, grows and enables bright ideas.
