UX/UI Casestudy- JD photography

UX/UI case study of JD photography
Overview

The main objective is to create a modern, user friendly website of a professional photographer, JD photography. Having a website is a professional way to build a brand, and gives full control of how anyone represents himself and his work to his prospects and clients.
Product definition

I started working on this project by clarifying the business goals and technical limitations, this helped me to dispel the assumptions about the goals of the project.
The task is to develop a website design and increase the revenue by inviting more users to visit the website and convert them into clients by winning their trust. The emphasis should be on the work of the photographer. He wants more clients and more control over the content by exhibiting his personality, style and uniqueness.

Who will this cater to?
Target audience is the user who wants to display and sell his work through the website and also get hired for the events. The potential users are who need a photographer to cover their upcoming events like weddings, maternity, newborns, families, portraits, landscapes, nature, etc.

My role:
UX/ UI Designer

Responsibilities:
User research, Visual design, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping and usability testing

Design process

I followed a user centric design process which included the following steps:
Product definition - User research - Analysis - Design - Validation.

User Research

User Research is the foundation for designing a great user experience. We need to understand the people for whom we are designing the application for and how the product suits the user needs. It helps us to build the right product and removes assumptions about the users needs which will ultimately save the time and money.

User Survey

List of questions are prepared and sent it to a larger number of users. I collected user feedbacks using Google forms. Survey forms were distributed to the potential users. User Survey form link is given below:

User interview

User interviews were conducted face to face and over the phone. Few findings are summarized below:

1.Users wants to check the photographer’s work/portfolio for consistency, credentials,           education, and experience.
2. Some users prefer to read reviews and talk to former clients.
3. Visit the photographer’s website and social media pages and review their portfolio.
4. Interview the photographer and test your comfort level.
5. Users want to focus on the photographer’s specialty.
6. Ask about the photographer’s editing software and skill level.
7.Check the fees before hiring the photographer for the event.
8. Users should not be confused about the information displayed in the website.
9. Website should be simple, easy and comfortable for the user to use.
10. Photographer wants to create a personal brand.

Empathy map

I prepared a handy document called Empathy map which helped me to understand the user needs and pain points. Empathy map is a document which explains what the user thinks, feels, says, sees and hears about the application from their friends and influencers.
By doing this I was able to have a better understanding of our users emotional aspects and an ability to ‘walk in their shoes.’

User Persona

User Persona is the representation of the target audience.
Competitive Analysis

To provide the best possible product for the user, it is important to conduct the competitor analysis. I considered websites that focus on photographers work, are easy to use, have considerable number of user reviews  and can be used in multiple devices.
Usability was a  major concerns of the users. Visual design of the application, which is very crucial for the user retention was not  pleasing or intuitive.
Prepared a strategy document with business and user goals to ensure that we are all on the same page
Use cases

Use case 1: As a user, I want to view the photographers credentials, portfolio, reviews ,services and fee details so that I will get a clear picture about him before hiring for an event.

Use case 2: As a new user, I want to shop the work/ paintings with very little effort.
Wireframe
Wireframes are the rough sketch or blueprint of the website to display the content or structure of the web page without the visual design defined so that we can focus on how it works or function and the user interactivity not on how it looks. It explains the placement of elements in the web page to get the ideas out quickly or communicate the information clearly.

Usability Testing

Usability testing ensures the designs are user centric. Recruited the users from the target audiences and scheduled the time for testing. We made the necessary changes based on the user feedbacks to make the website more user friendly.
