The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR) separates from other documents in its kind by breaking-up and visually interpreting the abstract and complex policy and safety concepts required by law. Each section's illustration and data visualization elements provide the university community and the general public a comfortable approach to essential and relevant data that could influence their university or prospective college life experience.

The ASFSR 2020 have been awarded in 2021 the Bronze A' Design Award in Print and Published Media Design Category by the International Design Academy, the grand jury panel of the A' Design Award & Competition which consists of internationally influential press members, established designers, leading academics and prominent entrepreneurs.

The ASFSR 2020 have been recognized as a winner in 2021 with the American Inhouse Design Awards in the Annual + Corporate Reports Category granted by GDUSA Graphic Design USA.  Receiving an American Inhouse Design Award is a triumph on many levels: a personal feat of talent and hard work; a collaborative accomplishment for a team working together to advance an organization’s goals; and a victory for all those who toil inhouse and may not garner the recognition and reward they deserve.

The ASFSR 2020 have been recognized as a Finalist of the 2021 Adobe Creativity Government Awards in the Graphic Design Category which may include brochures, reports, and/or presentations that illustrate research, explain concepts and statistics, and/or deliver important public service information. This award recognizes talent and creativity in government and celebrate great work that makes a real difference.

Throughout the 2020 pandemic, we witnessed an explosion of ingenious ideas that often extrapolated elements from their familiar contexts and repurposed them as solutions for universal problems- the act of which was a real-life collage technique. The report was inspired by this metaphor. It met the need for simplifying complex and abstract policy concepts into relatable, digital collages while embodying the university's principles of diversity, innovation, and collaboration.
The project's design represents the essence of the University of Illinois at Chicago's diversity by creating digital collages for illustration and data representation. Seemingly-unrelated elements in the collages represent the unique elements of the university (persons, backgrounds, and fields of study); but, when arranged on the same landscape, they harmoniously work in sync to materialize each section's purpose through fantastic, surreal worlds, just as the university fosters innovative ideas that transform the world.
