éntomo is a new food brand and digital resource that encourages people to explore insects as an exciting, nutritious and sustainable food source for the twenty-first century.

The outcome of my final year project at IADT, éntomo provides people with a platform to learn about insects
as a new, sustainable and healthy food source. Through education, gourmet cuisine, events, and research, éntomo challenges cultural prejudices associated with eating insects and highlights the benefits and exciting opportunities of this food source. All content and design outcomes including web design and programming, brand identity, photography, illustration, food packaging, film, copywriting, and other printed matter were self-authored and presented as my major project for a BA (hons) degree at IADT in 2013.

above: éntomo logotype. The name éntomo is French, from Greek entomon meaning insect or cut in two (from its segmented body). Drawing on the meaning of the word, each letterform has been divided in two and creates abstract shapes that are used in both print and motion.

above: éntomo research lab / user testing. A series of studies were caried out on young working professionals and students. The results highlighted the anxiety each subject felt when trying insects for the first time, emphasising the cultural taboo associated with entomophagy (the practice of eating insects).
