In September, I met with Paul Bright and Marcus Keely to talk about what the inscription would say. These are my first notes. Paul suggested the text from Kurt Schwitters "Ursonate". "Something Dadaist; he requested my "hybrid" approach mentioned in my book Scribe.

Making the text "work", I tried several versions; writing smaller on paper with a brush. Initially, I was worried about the punctuation.

Here, I am just writing with a brush to get the flow of the words before having to make composition.

Once I had a version I was happy with, I applied it to a phone photo I had of the wall. (below)

Once I sent this picture, (which I composited in Photoshop) we were on the right track. However, we changed walls and I was given side dimensions I had to adhere to. (this changed my layout considerably)

Next, I had to find a large 6" brush to write with. Also, I needed to see if I could get the brush qualities I was used to on paper. This is a practice sheet using the actual brush. I learned about the Liquidex large brushes by posting on Facebook and receiving suggestions from wonderful, sharing artists, saving me time and money. This page is a full sheet of Arches 40"x22"

Bought brushes and tried them on my studio wall.
