I had the immense privilege of working with these sensitive and gentle portraits made by the talented Julia Sellman. In this opening picture, Elea Aarse plays with a giraffe made of DNA strands. I subtly reflect the shape of DNA strands in the opening type with a mauve drawn from Elea's dress.

I worked with our photo director Luise Stauss and photo editor Christine Walsh on image selection and placement. We went from a blank page to a full feature in 24 hours. 

I've opted to keep the type very quiet throughout, to match the tone of the photos and story. This restraints allows me to play with grid.
