Benefit auction to save the parade

Jack Laroux was invited to paint a styrofoam skull mask to be sold at auction at the SOHO Art House Gallery during an event called the FUNHOUSE in New York City.
The auction was to benefit the New York City Halloween Parade 2013 which was in jeapordy of being cancelled after 40 years in existence due to hurricane Sandy the prior year disrupting funds.
The art show and auction sale was a huge success and the parade was saved!
Over 500 people came through the gallery on October 11, 2013 to view and bid on the skulls, enjoy live music and sip tasty beverages.
Skully enjoying a healthy breakfast. The styrofoam skulls  were donated to the event and invited artists by BIGG HEAD COSTUMES inc. The skull design was inspired by LAROUX's Santa Muerte painting hanging on the wall behind Laroux.
The skull was primed with acrylic paint to seal the surface for spray paint application.
The beginning stages of the skull design begins with Laroux's signature spray painted grid style. The skull received 5 layers of spray painted grids before the oil and acrylic stages.
Day one: Getting used to painting on a 3D object was very challenging at first.
Laroux used very small flat and regular brushes to do all the detail work.

........and there was ALOT of small details!!!
Before Skully was delivered to the studio we had a little fun. A SKULL LIFE was documented! At the hair dresser, getting lunch at the deli, filling up for the drive up to the studio!
The skull took 10 days to complete.
A signature to complete the project and then it was PARTY time!
