Frauhaus: women of the Bauhaus.
Exhibition of posters by Maia Zamlanski
2019
In 2019 legendary Bauhaus celebrated its centenary! Despite the fact that,  at the time, the Walter Gropius School was considered a fairly progressive educational institution on the issue of gender equality, the atmosphere inside the school remained quite conservative.

Many women who studied there and then even stayed to teach were not able to fully unleash their creative potential, or to develop professionally in those areas that were considered relatively "masculine", such as architecture. Moreover, still sometimes the works of craftswomen involved in the Bauhaus, such as photographs or objects of industrial design are attributed to their husbands, mentors and creative partners.

But one way or another, each of the artists was able to leave a tangible mark in the formation of modernism and, as a consequence, the impact on the aesthetics of modern design and art. Each had its own recognizable forms, patterns, stylistic solutions and artistic techniques, which I tried to rethink in a series of posters in their honor. Last but not least, thanks to these pioneers of the New Vision, today women and girls can more confidently realize themselves in the fields of architecture, art and design, which still remain quite male-dominated. Therefore, how free this implementation is now from gender prejudices and obstacles is already a matter for discussion.
