Automatic lifting upgrade for IKEA SKARSTA desk

Automatic lifting upgrade for IKEA SKARSTA desk

The goal was to design a modular upgrade for IKEA Skarsta desk that would be a good replacement for manual adjustment with a handle. Adding some automation makes this process much more precise, faster and user friendly.
The control panel is equipped with 4 profile buttons which allow user to save and set mostly used positions.
Electronics consists of:
- Mean Well 36V, 4.3A power supply in 3D printed case with ON/OFF switch,
- DC-DC buck converter in 3D printed case,
- TB6600 stepper driver,
- Mainboard with Atmega328 mounted in 3D printed case,
- NEMA 23 3Nm stepper motor.
The main part of this upgrade is stepper motor with gearbelt transmission, which provides enough torque and speed for smooth precise movement. There are flexible coupling used at the input and output of transmission. The output shaft is brass 6mm HEX shaft and it goes inside the leg.
