Fascinating Flour
"Thinking through Making"
Fascinating Flour is a project that encourages hands-on creativity. It involves rapid exploration of how flour (material) can be manipulated with steam (process) to create an interesting or fascinating piece. In addition to flour, common baking products such as baking powder and colorings were used as additives to generate more variations between pieces. By varying steam temperature, time, type of flour, flour weight, additive amounts, and colorings, numerous interesting outcomes were achieved.
After weeks of experimentation, a characteristic that caught my attention was the contrast between a brittle and soft appearance within a single piece. The difference in texture between the 2 when put together, enhances each other's appearance making the piece stand out from the rest. Coupled with the use of different color and a strong line of symmetry, here is Disparity.
"Thinking through Making" perhaps when we get a creative block, we just got to start making.
