Human Centered Design: Shade Shift

INTERACTION / USAGE
FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
The Shade Shift is a product which provides the user with the experience of seeing the world in various colorful hues. This cube-shaped prototype comfortably sits on the top of the head and covers the whole face, making it a great, fashionable option for a face-covering in a time where we are all trying to stay safe from sickness and contamination. While wearing the Shape Shift, the user is able to rotate the cube and look through four different colored lenses: yellow, pink, blue, and green. People are constantly looking for new ways to experience and interact with the world, and the Shade Shift provides a sense-provoking, unique experience which can be utilized whenever and wherever.
AESTHETIC DESCRIPTION AND JUSTIFICATIONS
The main sensation that the Shape Shift provides is the altering of the users’ sight/vision. When the user wears the product, they will be looking through a transparent, colored lens, which will saturate the world around them in that color. This effect creates a new experience for the user, allowing them to walk through the world in a way they haven’t before. The Shape Shift also provides a sense of protection, because it surrounds the entire head and creates a physical space for the self, apart from others. The prototype is sturdy, but it is lightweight, so that it sits comfortably on the top of the head and doesn’t weigh the user down.
REFINED SKETCH
RESEARCH / IN-PROCESS SKETCHES
The initial idea for the prototype included a cap-like structure, which the cube would be attached to and would rotate around. While creating models of this concept, the cap was deemed too tight and bulky, and took up too much space, making the prototype less light-weight and comfortable.
