Footprints on a Ceiling

The activities on the upper plane will be translated into ghostly lumps on a lower plane. This floor+ceiling system will cause an unique vertical interaction, making people wonder and imagine what is happening on the upper plane by following the movement of the spooky  lumps.  It would be fun to be below a busy corridor, a nursery, class room, or a dance floor if this were the floor of those spaces so that you could watch the activities above.  Even  activities in a quiet office would make interesting subtle patterns. Just a  small unit of this floor+ceiling system prototype is built, so you can imagine this used as a bigger space or a long corridor.
unresolved : dancing banana**

I cannot like a raw banana. (A raw banana is the only food I cannot like.)  Real, raw bananas were chosen to be used as kinetic objects which represent an issue I have not overcome in my life.  The machine is designed to seek the attractive character of bananas. By combining the vertical and twisting motions, bananas perform an organic, mechanical, and amusing but painful dance. With the paradoxical association of real fruit, mechanics and the neon pink color, the evil and charming aspects of bananas coexist in this banana dance machine.

The hinge parts were laser cut to achieve efficiency and accuracy. One of the most difficult issues in this project was material selection. Even the concept of the mechanical system with two Servo motors is pretty simple; two motions of different directions often cause unfavorable friction with one another. This problem can be solved a number of ways, including using smoother and lighter materials or more powerful motors.  This project challenged me to seek the limits of multiple factors. I learned that it is an important skill to realize problems, be aware of every possible solution and choose the best one within the balance of a limited budget, time and availability.  Considering this, and based on the associated knowledge in physics, technology, and materials, I was able to meet the majority but not all of my goals. If I could improve something on this project I would have made the motions more exaggerated.
