Initially launched in 2019–and earning a prophetically cursed #2 position on Product Hunt–Public Type Works was created as a platform to support upcoming open source fonts. And it almost worked. But it was flawed, so I shut it down. This is the relaunch, 16 months later, with new fonts, a new plan, and a new look.
Creating decent beta fonts and showcasing their capabilities was step 1 and step 2 was rebuilding the website from scratch. I created a custom WordPress theme and used WooCommerce as a delivery method. PayPal integration meant that this would be far more appealing to international users than version 1 of the site, which was credit card only. Now it just needs more type designers, and if that's you, please get in touch.
