MAMPATO IN RAPANUI THE MOVIE

MAMPATO IN RAPANUI MOTIONPICTURE   (ART DIRECTION / CHARACTER DESING/ STORYBOARDS )  Excited by the stories his father tells him about Easter Island, Mampato decides to visit this place and learn more about its mysteries. With his space-time belt, he travels to prehistory in search of his friend and partner Ogú, a friendly caveman. Together they travel through time and space to the mythical island of Rapa Nui, where they meet a little local named Marama, who will be their host, guide and companion in this adventure. Involuntarily, the protagonists enter the conflicts and rivalries of their inhabitants, where the ariki (Long Ears) keep the Short Ears, of which Marama is a part, subject. In the adventure, they enjoy the hospitality of the "Short Ears" islanders, but they are also hunted by the "Long Ears" and their protégés, who have kept the Easterners subjugated for years, dominating and exploiting them. They must hide from their henchmen and finally participate in a rebellion against him, which culminates thanks to Mampato's cunning with the possession of the island and the recovery of the rights of the people of Easter. Thus our friends unveil some mysteries of Rapa Nui and after days of adventure, they return to their homes; Ogú to prehistory and Mampato returns to our time where only a few minutes have passed since he locked himself in his room. Ogú y Mampato en Rapa Nui is considered the first "modern" animated film made in Chile. This adventure was chosen, instead of the first, because it is an exotic setting, more identifiable to non-Chilean audiences. The film, with a wide national box office, has been distributed in other Latin American countries by Disney's Buena Vista. The animated film was well received by the public and critics, and was recognized in Chile and abroad. It won the jury award at the AJIJIC Film Festival in Mexico, the award for the best animated film at the Cartagena Children's Film Festival in Colombia, and the first prize at the Buenos Aires Children's Film Festival in Argentina. The animated film was chosen to represent Chile in the category of best foreign film at the Oscars.
