Station Idents Assignment
HGTV
The second assignment of CC2222 Motion Graphic Design is to create five alternative station idents for television station or network of the students’ choice. HGTV, an American network owned by Discovery Inc., aimed towards home improvement and real estate is chosen for this assignment.
Justification
Upon spending the time watching the channel, it is believed that HGTV that broadcasted here does not contain the idents that being showed on the internet. Instead, the idents being shown consist of a glimpse of scene from a show as part of the advertisement in the beginning and ended with a plain HGTV logo.
Me having to watch the television at the wrong time could be a contributing factor as well since the United State of America requires the station idents to be shown on specific time of the day at certain number of times, thus why I never encountered the exclusive-looking idents as what can be found on the internet.
The Concept and Inspiration
The concept of the station idents were created to relate it with the common knowledge of HGTV, which is home improvement and real estate. Hence, a sketch of an exterior house structure is shown where it signifies the building’s foundation, which then transformed into a semi-finished building that has windows and roof as it is being in build in progress, which ended up with showing the final product of the house.
Apart from that, in term of home improvement, a badly maintained room is being transformed into a modern looking one is being used as the main storyline for one of the station idents.
The main influence for this station ident is also part of the previous HGTV ident as well, where they play around with shapes and masking on the shapes as well as the HGTV logo that was created in 2020.
The Idents
Ident #1 - House Building
The first concept of the station ident is created to relate it with the common knowledge of HGTV, which is home improvement. Hence, a sketch of an exterior house structure is shown where it signifies the building’s foundation. Following that, it shows the walls and windows and lastly, the colour of the house.
Ident #2 - Room Renovation
For Station Ident #2, it focuses on the interior living room renovation. The renovation goes in stages where the first stage shows the badly maintained room. In the second stage, it shows a person painting the wall where it signifies the process of the renovation and lastly in stage 3, it displays the results of the fully furnished room.
Ident #3 - Garden Showcase
For Station Ident #3, it focuses on the outdoor and indoor garden. The logo is masked into several garden environments. It comprises of the triangle the H, the G and the TV, which is the logo itself.
Ident #4 - House Showcase
Similar to station ident #3, it showcases the exterior part of the house where it shows different forms of houses.
Ident #5 - Room Showcase
Similar to station ident #3 and #4, it showcases the interior part of the house where it shows 4 types of room in regular home such as the bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom.
