ZEN App Interface Design

Zen is the first app on the market which offers you traditional forms of relaxation in virtual pocket devices. It includes daily energy and mood monitoring, virtual Japanese Zen garden (with Japanese meditation ambient music), meditation course with prerecorded narrations. There are some focus exercises as well, to help users concentrate and navigate through the day with more awareness of the present moment. In the end, virtual Zen space offers sleeping sounds and calming talks to help let go of everyday stressors.

Main goal of this project was to create interface design which would have calming impact through its visual form. Clients proposed collaboration with the designer in concept stage, when only wireframe of the app was created. In the first stage of this project(presented in this portfolio), main deliverable was creation of high- fidelity mockup design. Second (on-going) stage was continuation of interface development, together with raking sand game development. Third stage will be sound and visual implementation development, and whole project was scheduled to develop in 18 months before launching. Parallelly, user testing for each stage will be prepared.

Neumorphic design was the first choice for the designer as its soft edges and shades provide low contrast for beholders eye and it provides instant calming effect. In traditional Japanese Zen gardens, raking white sand has similar visual effect, and it was main idea around app creators’ concept.
Neumorphic design supports clients’ original concept and translates it into contemporary and digital context. Color codes used for this app vary in shades of beige, gray (for neomorph part) with contrasting magenta and peach tones, which were chosen as color used for compassion, sophistication healthy lifestyle promotion, especially mental health and mindfulness.
