throughout history, women have always been cut down from their humanity to be only left as an object of desire. even through poetry, films and day to day conversations, they are constantly objectified.
diving into shallow pools, women have been compared to many fruits throughout the history of art and culture either based on shape, color or even texture. whereas in more modern times, their sexuality is solemnly related to the fabric on their bodies other than their shape.
in this sequence, my aim is to portray how men’s vision of women is blatantly regarding a desire for possession and even consumption in a sense, whereby they are shown as glamorous only for the viewer’s eye to lust over and not for their own self esteem.
one- can you get up?

apples have a strong connection with the bible, the fall of man, and original sin. going back to as far as Adam and Eve, they are also associated with temptation, knowledge, and youthfulness.

two- can you shave?

the sweet interior, void of anything inedible. The hairy exterior is solemnly a representation of women as human bodies that grow hair notwithstanding, societal standards demand women to shave for them to be all glossy and attractive to men.
three- can you bounce?

in modern times, the shape of women in relation to beauty standards has evolved and got to a point where the bigger the butt, the “hotter” you would be considered. and, in order for a woman to feel good about herself she has to step up to those standards or rejection would hit hard from non-other than men. expectations for a perfect figure are imposed on women all throughout advertisements and even music videos where the main focus would be the objectification.
four- can you clean the sheets?

even to this day, in many cultures, women are still treated as property belonging to men. whereby this mobile property has to obey and do chores to be considered as good enough.
sticking to the concept of good enough, virginity is seen as an important standard for a good housewife. especially in our Lebanese society, since a non-virgin would be seen as bad and unwanted by men and the society itself. the glow of the untouched.
the pomegranate itself, represents fertility and was considered sacred in Greek mythology.
five- does it smell?
gooey insides with a pink exterior.
