This image was taken near Covent Garden. At the time, there was a street performer in the main square so my mum and I went and sat in this little garden. This was my view from the bench we were sat on. I found the building and architecture quite beautiful and almost powerful as the arch towers over everyone. I also liked the crowd behind the arch, as it almost signifies the wall between the busy city life and the quite atmosphere of the garden. I chose the images from the day to be in black and white because i really liked the simplicity of the colours and the way it complements the buildings and gloomy sky above.

This photo was taken in Covent Garden. That day the shops were extremely busy due to the christmas period, however they did decorate the building with these huge christmas baubles hanging from the ceiling, which really brought out the festive spirit. I chose to stand in the centre of the building as i wanted to capture the entire room from a central view, as the ceiling was shaped like an arch which almost pointed towards the middle of the image, i felt this created depth and made the image more visually pleasing. Despite the baubles being a bright red colour, i still made the image black and white as the photo itself is busy therefore i wanted the black and white colours to simplify it.
I really liked this image for many reasons. Firstly, i liked the angle of the image, i pointed the camera upwards the emphasise the height of the light, and also this gave a sense of power to the object as it towers over passers by. I also really liked the architecture involved in the image as this presents the history that london still contains despite the modern day architecture. The light itself is very old, vintage fashioned which i really liked. The black and white complimented this, adding to the idea of old fashioned, vintage architecture, bringing back old London.
This image was also taken in the small garden in Covent garden. I really liked the iron fencing that ran around the outskirts of the garden, it seemed very formal and gave the garden a sense of protection and importance. I also like the background of the image, in particular the tall, old fashioned lamp thats stood in the centre, as i felt this gave the garden some character and personality as once again it displays the idea of 'old london'. I also liked the depth that the images contain, with the fence being in the foreground of the image and becoming the centre of attention.

This image is slightly different from the previous photos ive taken, however i really liked this image for many reasons. If i could name this photo it would be 'making a living'. The idea that this street performer earns money on the streets of the city of London is quite remarkable. I managed to capture him shaking hands with a child, although the child is hidden, however i really liked the pleased expression on his face and his body language signifiies that he is happy and inviting. I also liked the way people are walking passed as if without even noticing his presence, as this shows the difficulty of being a street performer, and how they are treated by people. His outfit is really well complimented by the black and white colours, as they appear shiny and bright in comparison to the dark colours of the rest of the image.
This is my favourite image taken during the day. This photo just screams British, with a typical basket-bike parked up against the background of industrial buildings. The bike itself is my favourite part of the image, i love the clarity and interest of the bike, and the fact that it has a basket attached to the front just adds character to the image. Its so typically British that i thought it was the perfect thing to represent us. I also really liked the bike because again its very classy and old fashioned, and its a design that you dont often see anymore. I think it contrasts well with the background of industrial buildings and office windows, and especially the people with their typical moody expressions on each of their faces.

The following images are all in colour, and are taken during the evening. I found these harder to capture as the darkness of the night ment that my camera performed slower without the flash on, however the next three are the most successful out of the night shots. This first image captures movement quite successfully, i used previous skills that i learnt in my a level course and applied them when capturing a moving vehicle. I was taught that the key is to move the camera with the vehicle whilst taking the picture, this then captures the front of the bus in focus and the remaining image blurred- representing motion. I chose to keep my night images in colour as London is known for its bright lights and buzzing night life, and i felt that this was best represented in colour
This is an image of a theatre i passed on my way to see the Lion King. There are many things i like about this photo, for instance i really liked the shape of the building, as its built on a corner, the front of the building seems bigger than the sides, this gives the image depth. I also really like the colours in the image, and the way the lights create shadow onto the building as this outlines the architecture and the face carved into the top of the building. The light produced by the theatre also just about outlines the busy street surrounding it, however the the darkness of the night still remains, this could only be captured through not using a flash.
This final image is 100% my favourite out of the entire shoot. There are many aspects of this photo which i find makes the image visually pleasing to the eye. The bright coloour of oranges and yellows highlights the street and creates sillouhettes of the people amongst it. This image is in fact of china town which is near central London, and so this photo is not as typically British as the others, however it still remains my favourite due to the colours and vibrancy of the night being presented in the image.
