Turing Tavern

Welcome to the Turing Tavern! A small, secluded bar in the middle of cyberspace, run by the sentient AI bartender C.O.R.E., who loves guests and is always ready to serve. The goal of this project was to create a quality 3D character asset along with a 3D environment for the character to reside in.

C.O.R.E. Original Concept Art
C.O.R.E. is the heart and soul of the Turing Tavern, so I knew I had to focus on creating him first. C.O.R.E. went through a few iterations, but I settled upon a friendly, round design that pulled inspiration from the likes of Portal, Fallout, and the many brilliant submissions I saw during Sketchfab's Robot Challenge of the month.

The project was textured using Substance Painter. 

The textures you see above are of the original UV layout in which I merged the textures together for better implementation into Unreal. However, seeing as I did not end up using Unreal, I did not use this particular UV layout. However I did use these textures, and I feel as if the layout actually makes for a better representation of the textures than the individual material textures that I ended using for Sketchfab.

After pouring through references I established a clear vision for the bar that C.O.R.E. would come to inhabit. Also with a newfound sense of confidence after completing C.O.R.E. and establishing a decent workflow for creating assets.

Post-Mortem Survey:
- Gained more experience with modelling and UV unwrapping with Maya
- Learned about rigging with Maya
- Gained more experience texturing in Substance Painter
- Learned about different work flows for creating assets
- Developed an efficient work flow for creating assets that works for me
- Learned how to properly upload assets to Sketchfab
- Learned more about lighting and rendering
- Developed a better understanding of how to keep poly count under control
- May look into posting the C.O.R.E. rig to gumroad after it is further developed

Initial plans to make a small game in Unreal in which you would be able to interact with C.O.R.E. and the bar were scrapped in favor of focusing on making the highest quality assets I could in the allotted time. Though I may look to proceed with the project using the assets I have created here.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
