Victor Arráez's profile

ArtEZ Enschede, yearbook 2011. A publication.

ArtEZ Enschede —informally known as AKI— was, in 2012, a mixture of specialties, departments and possibilities for students to choose their own path and switch from department to department by just following their inquisitiveness; becoming a totem, a survivor from the standardization of studies. In this environment, students worked in collaboration with each other, creating multi-colored groups in which art and design coexist and influence each other. This became the main idea to be translated into the yearbook; the concept of mixture, relationships and groups of people working together represented by their output.

A tabloid format was chosen as the most efficient way of having the maximum number of copies printed of the school's yearbook for a reasonable price. A local newspaper was approached and they collaborated by including the yearbook as a special edition distributed all over the city of Enschede.
The publication was design to be a newspaper but also as a large poster to be constructed by the public. Its pages working as big pieces, and with just a small guide offering a possibility of construction. The publication itself possibilities readers to build their own poster, making their own associations and departments. A wall of fame chose and curated by each reader.

Student's personal info and contact data was place in the back of the pages, simulating a dark side of the images presented, clearing the view from pictures and releasing "noise" and texts into a separated lecture level. 5000 copies were printed and distributed in the city. Later it was reprinted to be part of ArtEZ global yearbook among Arnhem's and Zwolle's selections.
