I was asked to design the cover for the first album of “ Neko and Stella”, a two men band whose sound is a mix of
noisy psychadelic desert rock, blues, folk, shoegaze.
The name comes from the japanese Neko, that means “cat”.
The maneki neko instead is the famous japan cat with a lifted arm, which brings luck and money.
A psychedelic, more evil and dirtier interpretation of this symbol had to be the main element of the graphic.
I tryed out mixing different elements, desertic imaginary and old japanese prints style, but in a more topical way, and this is the result.
