RESTAURANT DESIGN : LUCKY CAT by GORDON RAMSAY

THE FLAIRS

Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay Restaurants is an Asian-inspired restaurant, bar, and private dining. Design inspiration was drawn from the underground clubs of 1930s Tokyo and the beckoning cat - “Maneki-Neko” welcomes patrons but also meaning as to bring good fortune, with both inspired from the Japanese historical believes culture and a thriving institutions mainstay of Japanese youth culture, to inform the vision for the restaurant as a place of vibrancy, with a strong identity.

The 3 keywords extracted from Lucky Cat are movements, combination, and balance. The concept is inspired by the movements of the Maneki Neko with one paw raised in a beckoning gesture. The gesture of the Maneki Neko waving its paws tend to holding up hand and palm down repeatedly, it creates different layers of movements when it goes down and back. To represent the strong identity for the interior it combines not only Japanese culture and western culture but also combines traditional design elements into a modern design style. To achieve the desired outcome for the interior, balance is the key to the way visual elements are arranged with satisfaction and harmonizes which will be applied into the interior spaces, colors, material, and textures in use. The interior design seeks to further accentuate the spirit of the culture and uphold the sense of the authentic Asian eating environment. The elements help to express an understated, but luxurious undertone throughout. The lighting, furniture, and material chose in the interior are connecting to the layout and create a considered but not formal, vibrancy but not the gimmicky interior.
