AVERT > HIV Comic Strips 

Avert is a small charity based in Brighton UK creating digital products and resources to increase knowledge about HIV and improve sexual health for people around the world.

This particular project focused on young people in Zambia which we needed a host of illustrations to work with them. They found my details on the Creative Nestlings website and contacted me to work with them.

Working in partnership with the Centre for Infectious Disease Research Zambia (CIDRZ) we were set to develop a digital intervention to encourage young people (18-25) in Zambia to use condoms and get tested for HIV. 

I was to develop a set of characters, situations storylines and aesthetics that reflect these identities, and the lived experience and dilemmas of young people in Zambia.

The final project was then turned into the Be In The Know App. An interactive app that would allow readers to read all the comics and choose the outcome for each character and situation.

This was very challenging given the timelines involved, and my lack of experience in character design, but it pushed me to learn and i'm happy with the outcome.
