Concours d’architecture Iceland Cave Tower

2020
Vogagjá–Iceland

Climbing, walking and crossing are an integral part of contemplation of the landscape.
The leaf experience places the body of the visitor at the center of its approach, who, thanks to his movement, will access different spatial sequences allowing him to fully enjoy the surrounding natural elements. From the ground to the sky, the infrastructure is there to support the visitor in both their physicaand spiritual ascent. The project consists of two elements: the tower and its platform allowing access to it by a playful architectural walk.

Touristic area
The top floor is a panoramic dining area. The view is completely unobstructed on the sky and the Kerling mountain. Visitors can rest warm. Architecture is designed to become an open living place where locals and tourists meet
Workstation
The office, dedicated to the staff of the establishment, is located on the
second floor. It enjoys a view of the fault and has its own kitchen and sanitary facilities. The space is bright thanks to the opening of the thermal curtains.
Storage
On the third floor is the storage space necessary for the proper functioning of this place. We also find sanitary facilities for tourists at this level. One part is therefore closed and reserved for staff and the other for tourists.

Catering area
On the ground floor is the reception area and tourist information. It is located in the extension of the entrance to the Karlagja cave to facilitate access to the cave. Visitors can thus sit warm before their visit to regulate and control entry.
