Created a brand, logo, and packaging for a fictitious potato company for my Advanced Packaging class. This project won an American Package Design Award 2014 from Graphic Design USA. http://www.gdusa.com/contests/apda14/winners/search.php?e=222 The brand Nightshade is a family owned business that has been running for over one hundred years. I created the name because potatoes are part of the Nightshade perennial family, and potatoes keep its life when stored in a cool, dark place. I wanted to give that emotion to the brand, but also give off a homey feel. The Nightshade brand produces solely all organic potatoes, and gives a persona of a hearty, homey, rustic, but elegant brand hence the typography and style. Every potato packaging has an old family recipe on the back of the paper potatoes bags to share a bit of the hearty Nightshade family kitchen. The paper potato bags have the netting windows on the sides because I, as the designer, feel it is hard to read text on the sides, especially when the bag is in storage folded up in the consumer’s cabinet. The recipe, nutrition facts, and brand history are easy to find and read on the back of the paper bag. I wanted to put emphasize on the size of the bag (3 lb) and the kind of potato, hence there size. I feel that this brand would be best directed to the middle-aged housewife that is a style and health conscious cook that appreciates old, small “mom & pop” businesses. Read Less
