These works shuffle motifs from a range of historical prints, stills, and manuscripts, in the interest of considering various utopic propositions for pan-Asian solidarity. They undo by collaging moments from contemporary Thai and Cambodian film, prints illustrating conflict throughout 20th century East Asia, and colonial ethnographic manuscripts. By centering disparate sources on canvas, these paintings indulge in a naïve collector’s outlook – while seeking out the dissonance of utopian promises.
