Artist Statement

Triptych 1, Computer Internals. I have always loved computers and technology, and this is the first computer that I built. It was something that I took the time to learn about and study on my own to achieve the final product. It is the product of my hard work both from my job and learning about computers.

Triptych 2, School. This year has been abnormal because of the pandemic, especially relating to school. I nostalgically remember the days before covid, but also remain grateful for the time that I did have this year. I feel empty like the school in these photos, but everything is not all bad.
Understanding the Problem

I was tasked with creating two triptychs, sets of 3 photos compiled together to form one composition. The layout of the entire composition, as well as the composition of the photos themselves was supposed to be intentional. One triptych was left entirely to personal choice, and the other was to be inspired by another photographer and/or their work.
Research and Inspiration Images
Triptychs can come in many different forms and have lots of different applications. Of the triptychs above that I found, the one that really inspired me was this one by Shweta N. This composition was the only triptych on their Behance page, but I particularly enjoyed the way it captured a moment or a memory, focusing on texture and tone because it was black and white.
Generate Possible Solutions
The idea that I planned out for the personally inspired triptych was some shots of my desktop computer that I built. I am passionate about technology and I like the look of computer parts, the way the light reacts differently with the variety of materials and surfaces. My other triptych was not so planned out, however. I shot the photos for what ended up being my artist inspired composition during a quick shoot and develop exercise. I found later inspiration when going through these photos and wanted to create a composition that captures my memories and feelings about school, especially during the pandemic. The black and white images paired with the emptiness of the school embodies the hollowness that the pandemic has brought about, but also nostalgia for the previous years.
Here is a sampling of some of the photos I shot for this project.
