Arbor Day
Historical Background
Art Deco formed from analytic and synthetic Cubism, designers were looking for a more legible way to have visual impact on the viewer. Typefaces from this period display strong geometrical design influences resulting in instant legibility on the increasing demand for advertising.
France was focused on luxurious design that was aimed at a new utopian society, but quickly grabbed the attention of consumers instead. Even during the great depression, this movement remained focused on elegance, simplicity and energy.

-Typefaces-
Acier Noir (left), created by A.M. Cassandre, displays the reductive style of Art Deco with the contrasting black portions and its strong geometric structure
Gill Sans (right), created by Eric Gill, similarly displays its geometric structure but increases its legibility by having no contrast within the letters.

Project Evaluations
While replicating the Art Deco Style, I used geometrically reduced tree shapes, Art Deco typeface, and block-like colors. The darkest tree color unifies the bottom portion of the poster, which leads directly into the trees. I will not be utilizing the symmetrical characteristics of Art Deco; however, I will be using its elegant layouts and bold colors to effectively capture the viewers attention.
