Selective Production Works for "SYNTHESIS" | 2009-2011

"South Hills" | 2010 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | This background was drawn to look like it belonged to a full production animation. A sensible amount of realism, yet still maintaining a painterly like illustrative approach.
"Going Somewhere" | 2010 | Photoshop | Cintiq 21UX | This illustration came from a quick idea wanting to express a destinct mood I often familiarize with when traveling on trains.
"Aricee Alley 2"

A speed sketch I felt like doing today to scratch an itch.
Some abstract concrete wall surrounding a public garden behind some offices. I'm jealous of Aricee's mountainous terrain.
1.5 hours, Photoshop
"Maia Project" | 2010 | Photoshop | Pencil & Cintiq 12WX | A finalized design for the main character of my graphic novel project "Synthesis." We see Maia here in her usual casual tomboyish attire and a semi-formal alternative, more "feminine" outfit. "Project" is her last name.
"Settling In" | 2009 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | A depiction of the apartment owned by Maia, the main character of my graphic novel project, Synthesis. Her apartment is repurposed from a rooftop greenhouse, converted by its landlord years ago to maximize profits on the building in troubling economic times.
"Starting Point" | 2009 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | A production art for "ABOVE", an iPhone / iPod Touch game developed by Swedish game studio, AXOLOT. This particular image was used for the game's title screen. ABOVE can be purchased from the iTunes App Store for $0.99.
"Aricee Alley" | 2009 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | This was an experiment in speed painting. In two hours, I attempted to create the most cohesive image I could without a presketch or line art. Due to this, the image contains a simple color pallette which began first by laying down shapes of a green color on a pure black canvas.
"Warm Afternoon" | 2009 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | A speedy sketch depicting another environemnt from Synthesis while it was still early in development.
"Mood Board 1" | 2008 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | A quick 40-minute mood board utilizing simple shapes and colors (inspired by the work of Lou Romano,) to convey the feeling of a scene over what is currently happening within the scene. This allows for quick visual direction for things light color scheme and lighting, while keeping creative leniency on the scenery.
"Now Arriving" | 2008 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | This scene, a full-color depiction from my graphic novel project "Synthesis," served as a kind of story board during early development. The illustration was awarded the AIB BFA Juror's Choice Award for 2009.
"Searching For" | 2008 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | Just like the earlier work "Now Arriving", this illustration was an experimentation in fleshing out the Synthesis project in its early development stages.
"Syn-Thesis 003" | 2008 | Photoshop, Paper | Cintiq 12WX, Ink | Syn-Thesis was a project completed for my senior year at AIB. My goal was to create five highly finished comic pages based on the very early development of Synthesis. The pages have no bearing on the final Synthesis story.
"Syn-Thesis 005" | 2008 | Photoshop, Paper | Cintiq 12WX, Ink | Syn-Thesis was a project completed for my senior year at AIB. My goal was to create five highly finished comic pages based on the very early development of Synthesis. The pages have no bearing on the final Synthesis story.
"Level One" | 2009 | Photoshop | Cintiq 12WX | A finalized background created for Axolot Game's iPhone game "ABOVE". This image is very large and may not be viewable easily within this window. Drag the image to your web browser's address bar to see it at full resolution.
