Winter at
the Old Harbor
III
This is the third part of my ongoing project about the Old Harbor of Chania during the winter. In this part I have some more photos with color. This choice was made because I perceive that they didn't work as well in black and white.
The harbor was built between 1320 and 1356 by the Venetians when they had colonized Crete. It served as a port for military ships and was one of the most important commercial ports of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. It was also used as defense against pirate raids which were very common during that period.
Now, it has become a major tourist destination, a huge theme park for tourists, full of spectacles, souvenirs of all kinds, restaurants and bars, a dramatic change to its use up to some decades ago.
