September 2020 - While we don't look to observe the Southern Resident Killer whales throughout the whale watching season in the Salish Sea its always an amazing surprise when we come across them while we are out on the water. In September 2020 we were lucky enough to be visited by Jpod twice in the same month!!!!
Our first encounter was on September 4 (which would have been very close to the birth of J57. As we were heading back across the Strait of Georgia towards Steveston we could see fins dotted in each direction. To ensure we didn't get too close to the whales as we were guessing they were SRKW we switched off our engines and waited for the whales to move past us. As the whales became parallel to our boat we were able to ID that it was Jpod. At this point they decided to erupt in play and began breaching out of the water, tail slapping, pectoral slapping and enjoying themselves. We waited for them to become a safe distance and started our engines and headed for home.
