Strip Study Phase 1
ART 111: Professor Beckloff
For this project, I was able to complete a total of 4 individual strip studies. We started with a white piece of poster board and 3 strips of black paper to create an interesting combination for each study. We were instructed to only cut the black paper horizontal, vertical, right and left diagonal, vertical "V", horizontal "V", diagonal "V", vertical curved, and horizontal curved. This really tested our skills in developing composition, design, and attention to detail because we were so limited on cuts and designs. This project took patience because I had to cut each strip perfectly straight and space each individual strip very precisely or it would have thrown off the whole composition. This project was one of my favorites because it inspired me to think outside of the box and create an interesting composition.
After I sketched out my options, I picked out the 4 compositions that I felt would be the most interesting and have the most variety when placed together as one art piece. Below are my final 4 individual strip studies. I decided to use horizontal, horizontal "V", horizontal curved, and vertical curved cuts.
