Milana Simić's profile

"The main characteristic of Milana Simić's earlier painting work is the use of fabrics of different colors, and she used this material to directly form the background of the painting in the construction of the abstract composition. In that way, this characteristic material became a building element of the painting, with all the specifics of the texture and quality of the fabrics used.
She applies those previous experiences in her current artistic work, where the performance itself is now the result of more studious work with the use of multi-meaning elements. She places a personal, intimate world at the center of her interest; re-examining her own emotions arising from her relationship with people and the world around her.The painting process itself is different now, she "makes" the painting, approaches it as an object, treats it almost as a sculptural form. Instead of industrial, neutral fabric, Milana now uses old and worn-out clothes in her work, which belonged to people close to her, but also to people unknown to her. In this process, she cuts old / used clothes, crucifies them, ties them in knots, folds them, and uses all these characteristic parts as a building block of the "character" - an imaginary portrait or intimate relations. In this way, Milana creates her own art forms, her own art language / system that is in the function of researching the chosen topic, and which develops into a reflection on identity and sociological aspects. In her artwork, the painting becomes an abstract symbiosis of different portraits, it bears the physical "imprint" of the body loaded into clothing, but also functions as a process of creating / building symbols of human relationships in a specific way, which is readable on several levels.
At the same time, this is her personal exploration of emotions, an intimate dialogue with close people through material "remains" that she uses as a basic material in her painting work, where she builds and translates used material from tactile experience into multifaceted abstract forms."
