Final Thesis Part1 - DIO
The title of the thesis is the scale change and function change in the shape family.
I did research on the topic before starting the design. I surveyed customer needs using my own questionnaire. I examined the average furniture sizes and the expected product environment. I made inspiration boards that served as guidelines during the design. On these boards, I focused on color and material pairings/matchings and the relations/connections between wood and metal. I kept in mind the use of natural materials because of the point of view of environmental protection. As the life cycle of products also includes their destruction and the reuse of materials or components. During the design process, my goal was to find a shape from which multi-functional furniture can be made and as well as products with new functions in other sizes. The thesis covers the entire design lifecycle, from the initial ideas to the final product. There are presented three of my product proposals, one of them is better developed. I think all ot the three products have a novel design and are useful in terms of multifunctionality.
The first product proposal got named "DIO" and it was the final one, what got better developed (with technical drawings, more design variations etc.)

After the first idea, I made formstudies about it to find more function in the shape with scale change.
I designed into the shape also an offcut, so then it can be more personalized.
"DIO" is designed by wood and metal materials. I used Solidworks to create the model. The metal part was made in sheet metal, and I used three radius to get the final form.
Beasuse of the form I had to make a change in the design cut, so in ends in a triangle instead of a paralellogram.
I paired materials for the questionnaire. The most popular pairing was the second one, so I made most of the renders with silver color. Below you can see a fast render about the variations.
I designed three different type of assembly to the product as a multifunctional furniture. The first one is glued, the second one has grooving and the third one is connecting with bolted joints.
I designed more offcut for the pruduct and modelled four of them.

It can be a small table, a modular shelf, a shelf on a wall and a pouf (with a pillow for more comfort).
