As a successful Kickstarter project, BLOCKS modular smartwatch's special feature allows users to choose preferred functionality by swapping out and replacing the strap modules. When the watch runs out of battery, users can simply replace the strap with a battery module. If one wants to measure the heart rate while jogging, the heart rate monitor module can be used to take the pulse.
With the opportunity to collaborate with Cronologics watch OS, the desired goal is to create a watch OS compatible and fitting with BLOCKS characteristics under its existing structure.
Modularization and personalization are the two key concepts we focus on during initial design. The watchface has to serve more purposes than simply displaying fixed information. It could be asked to show weather info, current barometric pressure, heart rate according to user's pre-defined functionality.
During the brand-shaping journey, several adjustments had been made from using lively colors to a more stable and professional tone. The change was made to accommodate to the limitations faced in interface development because more black background on OLED display can attribute to highly effective power saving.
One interesting and yet challenging requirement is to allow circle gestures to accommodate the shape of the watch. Since moving in circles enables longer distance than swiping up and down, it would be more user-friendly when browsing a longer page of info or setting up time.
The project has also released codes as open source for developers interested in creating BLOCKS functionalities they wish to make true and we will be offering UI/UX design and technical support.
