GEORGIAN CHRISTIAN ART
The Georgian Church “has been at the forefront of Georgian art. The Georgian ecclesiastical architecture continues to amaze us and the treasure it keeps is the great wealth of Georgian national culture. The Church not only sustained gifted architects, but also took great interest in painting. Some of the splendid paintings and frescos survive to the present day” – these are the words written by the Georgian poet Shalva Amirejibi in 1913.
