IOHA HIV AWARENESS POSTERS
APRIL 2021
HIV in south Africa
South Africa has the largest HIV epidemic in the world, with 7.7 million people living with HIV. South Africa has made huge improvements in getting people to test for HIV in recent years. It has now met the first of the 90-90-90 targets, with 90% of people living with HIV aware of their status in 2018.HIV prevalence among the general population is high at 20.4%. Prevalence is even higher among men who have sex with men, transgender women, sex workers and people who inject drugs. South Africa is one of the largest hosts of HIV patients in the world.
Risks

Male condoms are quite safe and effective. However, there are a few things you should take into consideration before using them:
Condoms can trigger a latex allergy. Reactions to latex can include rash, hives, runny nose, and in severe cases tightening of the airways and loss of blood pressure.
Condoms aren't foolproof. There's still a risk of getting an STI, HIV or becoming pregnant when using a condom, especially if it breaks or comes off during sex.

 How do you prepare

Male condoms are available without a prescription. They're sold in many stores and from vending machines in some restrooms. School nurses and university health centers often have condoms available for free. Condoms might be less expensive or might be free at family planning clinics.

Finding a type of condom that works well for you can take a little trial and error. Fit is important. If it's too tight, a condom is more likely to break. If it's too loose, it might slip off. Some men find that condoms decrease sensation or are uncomfortable to wear. If used correctly, the male condom is more than 90% effective.
THE POSTER
RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT HIV AND AIDS THROUGH VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS
These are some examples of posters that have successfully promoted the awareness of HIV and AIDS previously. The colour choice is simple, allowing the user to focus more on the message of the poster.

Above are examples of posters promoting the use of male condoms and their benefits of reducing the spread of HIV. Bright colors are used but the message is still very clear.
A3 SKETCH PROTOTYPES
I decided to go with a war theme to showcase just how dangerous the HI virus actually is. i drew inspiration from old planes and how they were used to drop bombs. iI linked the devastation from the bomb to that of acquiring HIV through sexual intercourse. I also looked at the wrapping of a condom and noticed how similar it looked to a street sign. it was very possible to incorporate it into a stop sign, giving it a double meaning.
THE POSTER OF CHOICE
Next up is the color. we were tasked with creating two different color schemes for the poster. One containing analogue colors and the other with Split complementary colors. Below on the left is the Split complementary, and on the right is the analogue.
