The Gotchak - Purification of soul

The Gotchak or Gochak ritual was started by an old man known as MeMe Phuntsog from Leh. It is difficult to find the exact date, but after some research came to know by the oral stories Gotchak was started somewhere around 70 years back. Earlier days it was way difficult to perform due to cold weather and heavy snowfall, uneven roads or path.

With the time it seems that more people are joining this ritual and you can find as young as 6-7 years to as old around 75 years in this ceremony. Due to COVID-19 this year there were less people joined otherwise 1000+ group size performing Gotchak is very normal.

Devotes leave their homes early morning gather at Chaktsal Gang and begin the journey early in the morning after prayer. This ritual takes place since ancient times seeking world peace and prosperity. It's not just for oneself but for the entire humanity.
