My Immersion Journey

This is my journal as I go through Bonnie Christine's 2021 Immersion Course for surface pattern design
Module 1
Module 1 mostly went over the capabilities of Adobe Illustrator. I considered myself very proficient with this software, however I was still able to learn some neat new tricks and tools, as well as gain insight to a different kind of workflow with Illustrator.
Module 2
Module 2 is when things started to get exciting for me! It opened up a lot of possibilities that I had never considered before for my daily doodles. Instead of shoving them on a bookshelf to never be seen again, I learned ways to polish them, give them some new life, and create something way more impressive with them!
For Instance, below is some scrap paper I had doodled on while talking on the phone the other day:
And this is what I was able to turn it into after starting the Module 2 lessons!
I played around with these techniques a bit more during our following implementation week, and here are some things I came up with:
(Yes, I know, I REALLY like pumpkins)
As a side note, I really enjoy making designs such as these ones below. I'm looking forward to continuing this course and refining these in a way that would make elegant patterns. I have a feeling my "signature style" will be heavily influenced by these kinds of motifs!
Bonus Lesson - Gesture Drawing
Since I consider myself an illustrator before a graphic designer, I was very excited to start on Meghann Rader's gesture drawing bonus module! When I first started the lessons she made it look so easy - and I couldn't wait to get started! I soon found it that it was much more challenging than I had initially thought it would be, but I made myself push through the sketches and here are some of my results!
