WHERE I AM FROM
Where I am From is a lightbox animation created in the spring of 2013 by my Creative Action students at Ojeda Middle School. Students reflect on place, identity, and dreams they have for themselves and their communities. All the images were created with handcut black construction paper and colored tissue paper, then moved by hand, frame by frame, over a lightbox.
INTERACTIVE MURAL
I painted this 12ft. long mural with my Creative Action students at Ojeda Middle School. We painted this mural to create more spaces for student expression and reflection at our school.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS MASK PROJECT
My students at Ojeda Middle School studied and discussed Día de Los Muertos - history, origin, contemporary practice, artistic traditions - and then created masks inspired by the holiday and Mexican calacas (skulls). We also discussed the purpose and meanings behind masks in general.
These masks were made with plaster bandages and then decorated with paint, glitter, and Modge Podge collage. Students gave personal meaning to their masks, while evoking Día de Los Muertos stylistic traditions.

1000 CRANES FOR LUIS
On November 29, 2011, Luis Lopez Flores was murdered while walking home from school. This film documents the response of my Creative Action (formerly Theatre Action Project) students at Ojeda Middle School to his tragic passing, and our efforts to bring healing, hope, and goodwill to Luis' family, to our school, and to ourselves through the construction of 1,000 paper cranes.
SO WE ALL MAY LIVE
This is a lightbox animation created in the spring of 2012 by my Theatre Action Project (now Creative Action) Film Club at Ojeda Middle School in Austin, Texas. The students explore human impacts on the environment in different parts of the world through the eyes of our animal friends. Monologues were researched then written by the students; all the images were created with handcut black construction paper and colored tissue paper, then moved by hand, frame by frame, over a lightbox.
