NOT WITHOUT HONOR: REAGAN HIGH SCHOOL THROUGH OUR EYES
This still photograph was taken as a part of a documentary photography and digital storytelling project I led at John P. Reagan High School in Austin, Texas for Austin Film Society. Reagan High School students reflected on racism, violence, poverty, school pride, and the stigma faced by Reagan students in the larger Austin community.

Made in an afternoon at Austin Film Society's Impact Film Camp in July 2011 as a shooting and editing exercise.  Students wanted to create something lighthearted about self-expression.

WHERE I AM FROM
The Where I am From activity is one of my favorite lessons to teach. I create poetry prompts and loose stylistic template, and then ask my students to write and reflect about their lives and identities. I do this activity in almost every community I teach in. This particular Where I am from was created by my AFS Film Club students at Reagan High School in the fall of 2010.
