Mud House Construction

Volunteering for 3 weeks with Bhoomi Learning Community to help them build a Mud house in the hilly terrains of Valaketti, Munnar.
The mud house was constructed using Wattle and Daub method using the resources around. The goal was to use as much natural resources from around the site and upcycle/recycle the rest.
From sourcing water, using a mud-toilet, No electricity to following the Sun timetable (5am-5pm), the experience was recalibrating oneself to the nature and ourselves.
Starting with spotting and cleaning the site, understanding the challenges of the terrain and materials, designing within limitations, resourcing and pooling materials, to keeping ourselves alive in the forest(:D),the project was broken down into different phases due to climatic changes.
The project is still in progress with the help of other volunteers in different phases.
It was a privilege to work on the field with Bhoomi Learning Community and the experiences and learnings would stay for life. It was nothing less than a meditation through work.
