O convite

Em março de 2021 fui convidado pelo colunista Helvecio Carlos, do jornal Estado de Minas, para participar de uma ação onde 9 designers pedem vacinação rápida e em massa. A iniciativa foi batizada de VACINA PARA TODOS.

In March 2021 I was invited by columnist Helvecio Carlos, from the newspaper Estado de Minas, to participate in an action where 9 designers demand fast and massive vaccination. The initiative was called VACCINE FOR ALL.

O conceito

Partindo do layout do cartão de vacinas verdinho, popular em Minas Gerais, a minha ideia tem como foco a ausência de vacinação entre a população, independente de do laboratório ou fabricante da vacina. Em paralelo a isso, pontua o avanço do descaso refletido nos números absurdos atingidos até o momento.

Starting from the layout of the green vaccination card, popular in Minas Gerais, the idea focuses on the absence of vaccination among the population, regardless of the vaccine laboratory. In parallel to this, it shows the progress of the negligence reflected in the absurd numbers reached so far.

O layout

A base para criação da proposta foi uma foto de celular do meu cartão de vacinação. Um modelo clássico dos anos 90.

Subi a foto para o Adobe Lightroom, iniciei o tratamento de imagem com correções básicas de luz, sombra e texturas.

The basis of the proposal was a smartphone photo of my vaccination card. A classic from the 90s.
I uploaded the photo to Adobe Lightroom, and made some basic adjustments to light, shadow and textures.

Enviei a foto para o Adobe Photoshop para remover os registros reais de vacinação deixando o “template” vazio. Depois disso, reorganizei a grade pensando nos grupos de informação, tamanhos e outros detalhes que gostaria de trazer.

I sent the photo to Adobe Photoshop to remove the actual vaccination records, leaving the template empty. After that, I reorganized the grid thinking about the groups of information, sizes and other details that I would like to bring.

Com a base preparada, era a hora de buscar uma tipografia similar a do impresso original e com excelente legibilidade, pensando no tamanho em que as informações seriam vistas no jornal e nas redes sociais. Acessei o Adobe Fonts e encontrei a Proxima Nova.

With the base prepared, it was time to look for a typography similar to the original print and with excellent readability, thinking about the size in which the information will be seen in the newspaper and social networks. I accessed Adobe Fonts and found Proxima Nova.

Já para a tipografia de apoio pensei inicialmente em uma fonte que emulasse uma caligrafia, porém buscando elementos ainda mais realistas para a minha proposta, decidi escrever eu mesmo as datas o os elementos no papel. Digitalizei com o Adobe Scan e depois os transformei em vetor com o Adobe Illustrator.

As for the support typography, I initially thought of a font that emulated a calligraphy, but looking for even more realistic elements for my proposal, I decided to write the dates or the elements myself on paper, scanned with Adobe Scan and then transformed them into vector with Adobe Illustrator.

O resultado

Para a etapa final, levei todos os elementos, tipografias e a base do cartão para o Adobe InDesign, onde fui fazendo todos testes de diagramação, e criando outras formas para compor o layout. Junto a isso, fui selecionando quais informações eram relevantes e achando o tom ideal entre o protesto e o simbolismo do cartão de vacinação original. O resultado foi esse:

For the final step, I took all the elements, typography and the base of the card to Adobe InDesign, where I was doing all the layout tests, and creating other forms to compose the layout. Along with this, I was selecting which information was relevant and finding the ideal tone between the protest and the symbolism of the original vaccination card. The result was this:
