Bubble Witch 3 Saga: Wedding Characters
The Vampire Bride was the first character made for Bubble Witch World and it set the style and level of quality which all other characters in this franchise would have to match afterwards.
Some challenges we had early in development were to try and match the style of the existing character of Stella while adding a brand new cast which had to each have their own unique personalities.

There was not much time for many concepts but I wanted to capture a character which could match Stella and convincingly be someone she went to Witch School together with.
Since these portraits would be seen from the waist up in Dialogues, I put more focus on hairstyles and silhouettes.

When approaching the color of the character, I broke down the existing cast of Bubble Witch Characters to basic blocks, this helps reduce details and helps the character be identified from far away.
Using this method I applied this to Ambyr. The combination of white for the wedding dress and red helps reinforce the themes of wedding and the vampire idea.
Since these characters were made only in 2D, but had to match the 3D look of Stella. I approached the rendering part similar to how a 3D model is lit and shaded. This was done with a combination of digital painting and vector smart objects.
The final art also needed to be several times larger than the in-game art since they would double as marketing assets for videos and ads.

An example of how the characters appear in-game. Since their legs will be covered by the word bubble, there was less reason to spend time designing the lower half of the character. However there are still small details such as the skull motif on the brides shoes.
