For this project I had to design a boxed set of three DVDs by a well-known international filmmaker.
The type used by Jean-Luc looks imperfect, handmade and it is awkwardly kerned, however these "negative aspects" unite the camera shots with the text, creating a whole new environment for Godard. The type imitates the atmosphere delivered by the images, therefore the most suitable typefaces for these covers are the ones from the title sequences. I think keeping the covers as simple as possible is the best approach for these films, where the unique type blends with the simple camera shots creating an amazing yet uncanny atmosphere.
