Graphic design normally starts with a study of the subject. By way of association the designer searches for the right visual style to fit the mood of the subject. This study is of course not objectively conducted as the designer turns to the sources known to him and makes associations with previous experiences and impressions. He also employs a style that is his own. These processes may not always unfold consciously, but they substantially determine the eventual product of the process.

During the realization of my master's project I searched for a different way of designing by eliminating as much as possible the designer's personal interpretation. In this type of design, the designer functions merely as a medium in the realization of the work. An autonomous image machines takes over the actual work, creating opportunities for unexpected interventions by external factors or by the apparatus itself.
This methodology gives rise to questions concerning the identity of the artist, the existence of coincidence and the computer as an autonomously functioning entity.
