This elegant re-imagining of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen creates an extension of the beautiful illustrations by Helen Stratton through its use of type and layout. Set in unique serif typefaces such as Mrs Eaves and Bodoni, this redesign utilizes a number of glyphs and various weights to help emphasize the emotion present in the original text. Neutral colors such as sand, blue, pink, and off-white also provide a tranquil reading environment that ties into the themes of the story.

Not wanting to change the quality of the original illustrations, the lines were placed carefully in relation to the copy, and no further color or detail was added to them. The end result is a lovely tribute to a lovely story, tragic yet uplifting, beautiful yet fragile.
