The series is a collection of memorabilia from all the animals living in the Minashigo Animal Shelter at the time I worked as a volunteer there. At the time the shelter cared for about 100 dogs , 300 cats, 2 racoons and an injured crow. As the shelter was devoted to rescuing and caring for stray and neglected animals, it stood in stark contrast with the laws of Japan. The law is simple - stray animals must be captured and euthanized. The shelter founder has taken it upon herself to prevent animals being denied their right to live. My time there was short but full of discoveries about me and about the basic emotional needs of other living beings. This was my way to remember them before leaving Japan.
